MY NEW SHINING NEEDLE SOCIETY CYBERCLASS

(Stitched by Amyee Johnson)
(Detail from class model.)
"Fan Papers and Ribbons" explores techniques of Far Eastern and Western silk and metal thread embroidery through the ages in addition to some traditional canvas work. Basically it uses "oodles" of layered fillings - over 15 variations.

The model of this 11" x 15" challenging Asian design is executed on #18 mono canvas in three color families of atranded silk (or cotton) and a variety of metallics in a color to coordinate with your floss values. The techniques include trellis patterns, pattern couching, many Japanese novelty layered fillings, rococo, satin, mosaic, eyelet and burden stitch.

Since the color combinations for this design are endless and such fun to select, Jane decided to offer the project as a chartpak only. Use Soie d'Alger and/or Needlepoint Inc. silk and/or Vikki Clayton's hand-dyed silk, or cotton floss with Kreinik metallic braid - supplies that can be found easily at your local needlework store OR use some of your thread stash.. You will need at least 7 values of silk (or cotton) and one of metallic with a color of #18 canvas that coordinates with your silk choices. (A detailed supply list is provided upon enrollment in the class.) The color schemes used in both the above projects will be listed in the booklet.
